APPOINTMENTS

Merck appointments

As a result of the acquisition of Millipore Inc (Billerica, MA) by Merck KGaA (Darmstadt, Germany), Millipore CEO, MARTIN MADAUS will leave the company, while JON DIVINCENZO, the former president of Millipore’s Bioscience division, will lead the equivalent unit in the newly-created Merck Millipore division. He will be joined by KLAUS BISCHOFF, former president of Merck’s Performance & Life Science Chemicals division, who takes up the leadership of Lab Solutions, and JEAN-PAUL MANGOLLE, the president of Millipore Bioprocess division, who will head the Process Solutions business. PETER KERSHAW, vp of Global Operations at Millipore, will the head of Operations at Merck Millipore.

Corning retirement

PETER VOLANAKIS has retired as president and COO of Corning Inc (Corning, NY), positions he held for the last eight years, after 28 years of service with the company, and will leave the company at the end of the year.

IntegenX appointment

DEBI FROST has been appointed as vp of operations at IntegenX Inc (Pleasanton, CA), where she will be reporting to president and CEO Dr Stevan Jovanovich. Frost joins the company after holding management positions for 20 years with Applied Biosystems, most recently as vp global nucleotide operations and vp of customer service and distribution.

Arrayit appointment

Arrayit Corp (Sunnyvale, CA) has appointed DUANE STEELE as its vp business development, where he will be leading the search for strategic partnerships for the commercialization of the company’s OvaDx® pre-symptomatic test for ovarian cancer. Steele joins Arrayit from IVAX Diagnostics, were he was vp of business development and COO of Ivax’ subsidiary, Diamedix.

BD election

Becton, Dickinson and Co (Franklin Lakes, NJ) has elected CHRISTOPHER JONES to its board of directors bringing the number of member to 14.

Harvard Biosciences appointment

With SAM LUKE, Biochrom Ltd (Cambridge, England), a subsidiary of Harvard Biosciences Inc (Holliston, MA), has appointed a new group managing director. Luke joins the company from Agilent, where he was for the previous six years the European general manager of its customer service division.

Qiagen appointment

Dr ELLEN SHEETS has joined Qiagen NV (Venlo, The Netherlands) as its chief medical officer, where she will be responsible for Qiagen’s strategy for the discovery of biomarkers for new cancer diagnostics. Located in Gaithersburg, MD, Sheets will be reporting to Dr Joachim Schorr, senior vp global R&D.

BioTek Instruments appointments

BioTek Instruments Inc (Winooski, VT) has made Dr DIRK FRESE its managing director for Europe, based at the company’s European headquarters in Bad Friedrichshall, Germany, coordinating the activities in the European markets and of its subsidiaries in the UK, France and Switzerland. Earlier this year, the company appointed SEAN JORDAN and BRAD LARSON as its service director and principle scientist, respectively.

Bruker appointment

Bruker Corp (Billerica, MA) has elected CHARLES WAGNER to its board of directors and audit committee, making the company comply “with all applicable NASDAQ listing requirements”, according to the company. Wagner has been CFO of Millipore for the last three years, serving the company as vp for strategy and corporate development since 2003.

Restek promotion

Restek Corp (Bellefonte, PA) has promoted its CFO of 11 years, BRYAN WOLCOTT, to the position of head coach and president, replacing DON MCCANDLESS, who held the position since 2002. Wolcott was leading the recent acquisition of glass manufacturer Glastron Inc (Vineland, NJ), a supplier to Restek for over two decades, at the beginning of this year.
